Larry Hearn » Biography


COL(Retired) Larry D. Hearn is currently the senior JROTC instructor at Demopolis City High School, located in Demopolis, AL. Prior to retiring from the Army, COL(Retired) Hearn served as the Chief of Staff for the 143d Expeditionary Sustainment Command (ESC) in Orlando, FL. The 143d ESC is the largest ESC in the U.S. Army, with more than 10,000 Soldiers, over 200 Civilians and 88 units in eight states.


He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant from the Auburn University Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) in 1989 and began his military career as a platoon leader in Livingston, AL.


COL Hearn’s assignments include platoon leader, 287th Transportation Co, Livingston, AL; Platoon leader, 416th Replacement Detachment, Gordo, AL, and Platoon leader, 705th Transportation Co, Dayton, OH. He was promoted to CPT and became the S1 for the 713th Transportation Battalion, Columbus, OH; S2/3 Officer, 828th Transportation Battalion, Livingston, AL, and the Force Modernization Officer, 377th Theater Support Command (TSC), New Orleans, LA. COL Hearn Deployed with the 377th TSC to Kuwait from November 2001 to July 2003. He was promoted to MAJ and became the Operation Officer for the 75th Training Division, 4th Brigade in Birmingham, AL from August 2004 until August 2007. He was then promoted to LTC in December 2008 and became the Operation Officer for the 87th Army Reserve Support Command (ARSC), Birmingham, AL and the Deputy G4, 79th Sustainment Support Command (SSC), Los Alamitos, CA. While still a LTC, he later served as the Stability Operations and Security Cooperation Regional Planner, U.S Army Office of the Chief of the Army Reserve, Fort Belvoir, VA from July 2013 until April 2014.  He was promoted to COL in March 2014, and became the Chief of Staff for the 143d ESC.


COL Hearn received his bachelor’s degree from Alabama State University in Montgomery, AL, and his MBA from Trident University, Cypress, CA. His military schools include the Adjutant General Officer Basic Course; Transportation Officer Advanced Course; Combined Arms and Services Staff School; the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College, where he received a MSS degree in Strategic Studies.


His decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, and the Army Commendation Medal with four oak leaf clusters.


COL Hearn is married to Twanna J. Hearn.
