AP Literature Summer Reading
Students will read Lord of the Flies by William Golding and take notes on thematic and symbolic elements. This can be achieved by using sticky notes on book pages or by jotting down notes on notebook paper along with page number citations.
Thematic ideas to consider: civilization vs savagery, order vs chaos, fear (and its role in chaos), human nature, good vs evil
Symbols: the objects should be easy to spot, but also consider religious symbolism in your study of the novel
Copies of the novel can be found in the front office of DHS. Students may also choose to purchase their own copies (so that they may highlight/annotate directly on the text). I have also attached a pdf of the full novel.
